powersmart directors.

Shane has a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering from the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada. He has a strong entrepreneurial background and a unique blend of engineering and management skills.  He is an incredibly smart and skilled person who prior to founding PowerSmart worked at the forefront of LED lighting technology, and is named on 18 separate international patents and patent applications.

Shane is a math and electronics genius who knows almost everything there is to know about solar power systems and related technology.  What he does not know he will learn and he is always hungry to improve himself and this company.  His favourite things include waking up as early as humanly possible, surfing before anyone else in the morning, shooting and eating fish, and constant activity to feed his unstoppable metabolism.

Shane is CEC Accredited to 'Design and Supervise Grid Connect Systems'.

Dean has a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Victoria, and previously worked as a field engineer in the high growth North American solar industry with one of the industry’s leading companies.

Dean is an incredibly experienced solar power system project manager and has installed solar power systems in almost every earth zone possible.  He’s installed systems in the high arctic, the Rocky Mountains, the tropics, the desert, and all over New Zealand/Australia.  We are currently on the lookout for a project in the Antarctic to round out his portfolio.

Dean is a keen traveller and loves to build big solar systems in far reaching places.  He’s an enormous man with an enormous skill set, and is a huge asset to PowerSmart (pardon the pun).  These days Dean works hard on our biggest and most important projects while raising his beautiful twin girls.

Dean is CEC Accredited to 'Design and Install Stand Alone Systems' and 'Design and Supervise Grid Connect Systems'.

Mike has a Bachelor of Commerce and has studied how finance relates to the renewable energy industry since early university. His understanding of the relationship between finance and sustainability led the University of Victoria, Canada, to offer him an open invitation to pursue a self-directed PhD in this field.

Mike is a half Canadian half Kiwi and is partially to blame for all the Canadians who have discovered the beauty and lifestyle of New Zealand while working for PowerSmart.  Mike’s NZ family are from Tauranga and Mike has lived here long enough to remember Papamoa as a nude beach before it became a sprawling suburb.  As MD Mike is often the last word on important decisions at PowerSmart and tends to focus most on our upcoming commercial projects and the long term business strategy of the company.

Mike’s favourite things include surfing a little later in the morning than Shane, working in the Pacific Islands, shooting and eating fish, and sailing catamarans.  One day he hopes to farm sunshine and spend his year between New Zealand, Canada, Tahiti, and France.
