Noel Ackerman, PowerSmart Logistics Manager 'walking the talk'.
Noel has been with PowerSmart for two and a half years with a role in purchasing and logistics. Noel and his wife Kris installed a 3kW system on their bach 18 months ago, and they have recently also had a 5.5kW system installed on their home in Mount Maunganui. The bach (being fairly small) has not had a single power bill since their solar system installation - in fact their power account is in credit.
As summer is now over, their new 5.5kW system has so far only exported slightly more power than they have imported; during summertime it is expected to generate considerably more than they use. Ultimately they hope to have no power bills at all.
Noel and Kris are shifting as much of their power consumption as possible to the daytime, washing clothes and running the dishwasher while their system is generating electricity. They also plan to put a timer on their hot water cylinder so that it only runs during the day. By maximising their home’s internal use of their solar power, and minimising the amount of power drawn from the grid, the couple is maximising their return on investment.
“Being an employee of PowerSmart I feel a great deal of satisfaction that we are producing more electricity than we consume. It is “walking the talk” so to speak. PowerSmart have a culture of being as ecologically responsible as possible which, for me, is one of the reasons it is a great place to work.”
